Trump admin subpoenas Reddit for information on anti-ICE user. What can we do?
The Trump administration has issued a subpoena to Reddit demanding information about a user who criticized ICE policies. This user has repeatedly voiced their opposition to ICE's practices and has gained a significant following. Reddit has not yet revealed whether it will comply with the subpoena, but this raises concerns about free speech and digital privacy. How do you feel about this situation? What actions should be taken?
I don't care what side of the political spectrum you're on, this is a clear violation of digital privacy. This is wrong, period
This is absolutely crazy. They can't just silences dissent by subpoenaing users. Reddit should fight this!
I wonder what kind of legal grounds they had to justify this subpoena. Don't they need probable cause or something?
I mean, if the user was a criminal, I'd get it, but criticizing a governmental agency? This is a terrible precedent.
I knew someone who worked at a governmental agency who made a joke on Reddit about ICE and he was charged with misconduct and let go. Honestly, be careful what you say on the internet.
I'm no lawyer, but I think Reddit has to comply, otherwise they'll face serious legal trouble. It's a catch-22 for Reddit.
I think we could all use a reminder that nothing you post online is ever truly private. It's a good lesson to learn.
Hopefully Reddit will stand up for their users' rights. They have a responsibility to protect their community.
I don't think we should be surprised. This administration has been chipping away at free speech for years. Its like they're almost hoping to find someone to arrest.
This is terrifying. Next thing you know, they'll be subpoenaing everyone who's ever made a joke about Trump.
