Levothyroxine 0.2mg (200mcg) Side Effects Forum: Share Your Experiences!
I've been taking Levothyroxine 0.2mg tablets for about a month now to manage my hypothyroidism. Overall, it's been a positive experience as my energy levels have improved significantly. However, I've noticed some side effects that I'm not sure whether to be concerned about or not. I've experienced some hair loss, which is temporary but still quite alarming. I've also had some trouble sleeping and feel more anxious than usual. On top of that I've noticed changes in my appetite. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Are these normal side effects, or should I contact my doctor? I'd appreciate any advice or shared experiences from others who have been on this medication for a while.
I've been on Levothyroxine for a few years now, and hair loss was definitely an issue for me at first. It was a bit traumatic, but my doctor assured me it was temporary. It eventually grew back, so try not to worry too much about that. As for the anxiety, that can also be a side effect, but it should level out over time as your body adjusts to the medication. If it's really concerning you, definitely talk to your doctor about adjusting the dosage.
I experienced a lot of the same side effects when I started taking Levothyroxine. I switched brands a few times and found a difference. Also, as you get older, you may need a lower dosage and talking to the endocrinologist may be helpful. It took some time, but eventually, I found a dosage and brand that worked well for me with minimal side effects.
I switched to a liquid form of the medication and it really helped with the side effects. Worth talking to your doctor about if the tablets aren't working out.
I've found that taking Levothyroxine in the morning on an empty stomach helps with some of the side effects. Try taking it 30-60 minutes before breakfast. It's also helped me with the anxiety and sleep issues. Good luck!
Make sure you're not taking any supplements or eating foods that could interfere with the absorption of Levothyroxine, like iron or calcium. That could be causing some of the side effects.
I've only been on it for a couple of weeks, but I've noticed some mood changes. I tend to get irritated more easily. Anyone else experiencing that?
As long as you're not experiencing any of the urgent side effects like shortness of breath or chest pain, it might just be your body adjusting. Hang in there!
Fun fact: Levothyroxine is actually a synthetic version of the hormone T4, which is produced naturally by the thyroid gland.
I feel like I've tried every brand, and none of them work for me... I feel like I have no energy to do anything at all and my anxiety is through the roof. Don't know what else to do.
Be patient, these symptoms may only be temporary, and your body needs some time to adjust. I had similar symptoms for first few months. Also have you checked potassium levels? you should keep an eye on it!
