What are the real side effects of Sod Chloride 0.45%/20meq KCl IV fluid?
I've been prescribed Sod Chloride 0.45%/20meq KCl for dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. The possible side effects listed are pretty scary. Has anyone had experience with this IV fluid? What were your side effects? Did anything surprise you? I'm trying to prepare for what might happen.
This stuff is scary. I had a friend who had a seizure after getting this IV. Turns out she had a very low potassium level, and the IV was too strong for her.
I had some muscle pain and weakness after getting this IV. My doc said it was likely due to the electrolyte imbalance being corrected too quickly.
Why is this IV so much scarier than others? Is it just the side effects listed, or is there something more sinister about it?
Just curious, how long does the treatment usually take?
