Urgent: Side Effects of Hurricaine 20% Solution - Benzocaine Warning
I've been using Hurricaine 20% Solution for my canker sores, but I'm starting to worry about the side effects. The package insert mentions some really severe symptoms like methemoglobinemia, which can be life-threatening. Has anyone else experienced any of these side effects? I've had a bit of irritation at the application site, but nothing too serious so far. Should I be concerned, or is this normal? I definitely don't want to risk something as serious as methemoglobinemia, but I also need relief from the pain. Has anyone had any issues with allergies or other serious reactions? I want to make sure I'm using this safely.
I've had a couple of canker sores and the irritation doesn't seem too bad. I might be stuck in denial, though, and not acknowledge it. Might just use it to get through the day.
Methemoglobinemia sounds terrifying. I had no idea benzocaine could cause that. I might just stick to ibuprofen from now on. Thanks for the heads-up, OP.
Has anyone tried alternative remedies? I've heard clove oil works well for toothaches.
I think Hurricaine is great for short-term pain relief, but if you're experiencing anything out of the ordinary, don't take any chances and get checked out.
