Thinking of moving from New York to Vancouver – how do the day-to-day lives compare?
I'm considering a move from NYC to Vancouver and I'm curious about how the daily life compares. I'm looking for specifics on the cost of living, commuting, neighborhoods, food, and culture. I'm really into arts and theatre. How do the two cities stack up? What can I expect from the job market? Any tips on where to live and how to find community?
Vancouver is great but it's expensive. Housing is a killer. You'll find plenty of theatre but it's not as vibrant as NYC. Food is amazing, especially seafood. Jobs in tech are booming but expect a lot of rain and a different pace of life. I moved from Toronto and still miss it sometimes but love the mountains and beaches here.
I’ve lived in both. New York is about the action. Vancouver is about the outdoors. You won’t trade the views and green space again.
Here’s the truth: Vancouverites are generally friendly and laid-back. But the rain and traffic can be a bit of a shock. I’m from Toronto and found it pretty easy to find events, clubs, and food. Just expect a slower pace and very different nightlife.
Come to Vancouver and love it. But there are no subways or yellow cabs. Get used to driving or biking everywhere. Definitely find a community to make friends.
I've lived in both, NYC wins. The energy is unmatched, especially the theatre scene. If you love bustling city life, stay in NYC. If you love the outdoors and laid-back atmosphere, then come to Vancouver. Also, I love the foodie culture here.
Have you considered other cities, like Seattle or San Francisco? They have a similar vibe to Vancouver. But, Vancouver is the only place with a great outdoor lifestyle.
Pack your Gortex. The weather is wet, grey, and cold. It rains a lot. You’ll need a good coat, shoes, and car. But if you like the outdoors and gorgeous sunsets, you’ll thrive. I’ve always appreciated the diverse food scene. You’ll be surprised by how much culture is here, especially in the art.
Vancouver is great but it's expensive. Housing is a killer.
Vancouver is the perfect blend of urban and natural. I’m from Toronto and moved here for the jobs. I miss some things about Toronto but the culture and weather here have been a refreshing change. I also miss the diversity of NYC, especially the food. Also, I miss the theatre
