My experience with Doxepin 5% Cream for Eczema - Anyone else have burning sensations?
I've been using Doxepin 5% Cream for my eczema for about a week now, and while it's helped with the itching, I've been experiencing some burning sensations. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it goes away over time? I heard that it works by blocking histamine, but I'm curious about the side effects, I am a bit concerned. I've also felt some drowsiness, which is a bit frustrating since it's supposed to be a topical cream. I've read that it can cause dry mouth and unusual thirst as well, so I'm keeping an eye out for those symptoms. The cream itself is easy to apply, but I've been trying to avoid areas where my skin is broken or really irritated, as the packet says to avoid those areas. I'm just hoping the burning sensation goes away soon!

I don't know but I would definitely recommend asking your doctor about this stuff. The side effects I heard about were pretty scary and I was pretty nervous about it. But the side effects didn't last for me, and it was worth it for the relief that I got from the itching. I've never had bad side effects or anything from the Doxepin cream, I was actually surprised at how well it worked for me. It was pretty much the only thing that seemed to help with my eczema, the only thing. I would recommend asking your doctor about it, if it doesn't seem to be working or if it's a problem. Just be sure that you tell your doctor about any kind of reaction that you have.
Same! It sucks because I've had it for so long and I'm not sure if it's eczema or any other skin condition at this point. I've tried so many things and nothing seems to work. But this is worth a shot.
Also curious, how thick is the cream and how long should I be waiting to apply it? Because I usually apply lotion and stuff, so I'm wondering how long I should wait. Should I be waiting a long time, or can I put it on and then apply some lotion after?
I think it's supposed to work by targeting the histamine. It should work on itching, but if it's uncomfortable you can just take it off and talk to your doctor. There's a bunch of FDA reports on it, so if it's bad, go to the doctor.
