Methsuximide 300mg Capsules: Helpful or Harmful? Personal Experiences Needed
Methsuximide 300mg Capsules were previously used to treat absence seizures, but it seems like they're not commonly talked about anymore. Does anyone have experience with this medication? What were the side effects like? How effective was it in managing seizures compared to other medications? I'm curious if anyone has found this to be a better option than the current standard treatments. The side effects list is quite extensive, and I'd love to hear from people who might have had to weigh the risks and benefits. Have there been any long term effects? The suicidal thoughts and actions warning is scary. I wonder how often that actually happened. Has anyone had direct experience with that?
I had to quit taking this as it made me extremely tired. I was working and doing school, and I couldn't keep up with everything. Also, I had severe nose bleeds every single day for the entire time. Even if it was really effective for seizures, the side effects were too much for me.
I took Methsuximide for a few years before my doctor switched me to another medication. It was effective, but the side effects were brutal. I had constant dizziness and stomach issues. It also made me super sensitive to light, which was a major bummer during the summer when I just wanted to be outside.
My kid had to take Methsuximide for a while and it worked great for the seizures, but it made him super sleepy during the day. We had to pull him out of school because his grades were dropping and he just couldn't keep up. Those were tough days.

Had a bad reaction to this one too. The rash and itching were unbearable, plus I was having weird, vivid dreams that were more like nightmares.
If you take this drug, the worst part is the allergic reaction. Horrible rash, hives, and swelling. It's not worth it. That being said, it helped with my seizures, but there are other drugs with less severe side effects.
This drug is a wonder! It was a game-changer for me. My seizures were completely gone and I felt better overall. As long as you stay on top of your bloodwork and checkups, side effects were minimal
This drug saved my life. So many people here talking about the negatives, but it was the only thing that stopped my seizures. The side effects were nothing compared to the seizures.
