Just started Vancomycin 25mg/ml Oral Soln for C. diff. Anyone have experience with this?
I was recently prescribed Vancomycin 25mg/ml Oral Soln 300ml for a severe case of C. diff diarrhea. My doctor explained that it's different from other antibiotics because it stays in the intestines to kill the bacteria. I'm a bit nervous about the side effects, especially the urgent ones. Just wondering if anyone has experience using this medication, if the side effects are as bad as they seem, and any tips on managing them. Also, how long does it usually take to start seeing improvement in symptoms?
I had a horrible experience with this medication. I developed a severe skin reaction and ended up in the hospital. If you notice any skin issues, go to the ER immediately. I wish my doctor had warned me more about the potential severity of the side effects.
This stuff is brutal. I took it a couple of years ago and the side effects were rough, but it did the job. Just make sure to communicate with your doctor if you experience any of the urgent side effects listed.
Make sure to stay hydrated while on this. I remember drinking lots of water and electrolyte drinks, and that helped a lot. Also, if you experience any hearing changes, get to a doctor right away. Long-term use can cause permanent hearing loss.
Euphlemism, this stuff tastes like garbage. Mouthwash with peppermint really helps mask the flavor before every dose. Just mix it in your mouth and swallow it. It will be so much easier than taking it as is.
I've been on this before and it's not fun. Stick to the prescribed dose and finish the full course. No matter how much it sucks, you have to take the whole thing. I had some stomach upset but nothing too bad. Best of luck!
I had some trouble with urinary tract infection symptoms on this. If you have blood in your urine or pain, take some azo pills and call your doctor.
Be prepared for some nasty side effects but just pushing through and taking it as prescribed. I had some really bad gas and stomach pain, but it got better after a few days. Just hang in there and it should get better. Also, call your doctor if you experience any burning or pain while urinating.
This is a hard one to go through. The side effects sucked, but at least the diarrhea went away after about 2 weeks. Drink lots of water and take it easy. I had to take a couple of days off work to deal with it.
