Just started Cytarabine 20mg/ml Inj for leukemia – what can I expect?
Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and have just started treatment with Cytarabine 20mg/ml Inj. I'm feeling a bit anxious about the side effects and what to expect in the coming weeks. I've read about the potential side effects online but I was wondering if anyone here has firsthand experience with this medication? What were your experiences and how did you cope with the side effects? Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I'm also curious to know if there are any specific foods or routines that helped others during treatment.
I'm an oncology nurse and I can tell you that everyone reacts differently. Just be open with your doctors about how you feel. If you have a bad reaction, it can be adjusted or changed. Don't suffer in silence.
Check out some YouTube videos or Facebook group's for AML survivors. They can be really helpful and you can get some good tips. You're in for a tough time but I know you can do it!
I went through a similar treatment for AML. Stay hydrated and listen to your body. It's tough, but you can get through it. Best of luck!
I know it sucks, but try to keep your spirits up. It's a tough road, but you're tougher. Fight, fight, fight!
My mom went through this and had really bad nausea. Ginger tea helped a lot. Make sure to ask about anti-nausea meds too.
Cytarabine can be rough, but it's strong stuff that can really help. Make sure you have good support at home. It helped me to keep a journal of my side effects and discuss them with my doctor.
I had really bad mouth sores and diarrhea. My doctor prescribed some meds to help, but it still sucked. Hope you have a better experience!
Do you have a port or do you get it through an IV? I had a port and it was so much easier on my veins.
I had to quit taking it, there were too many side effects. My doctor switched me to something else so don't loose hope if you have a bad reaction.
I've heard that some people benefit from acupuncture for chemo side effects. Might be worth a shot if you're open to alternative therapies.
