Just got Dotarem 10mmol/20ml Sdv Inj, 20ml for my MRI scan. Anyone have experience with this contrast agent?
I was prescribed Dotarem 10mmol/20ml Sdv Inj, 20ml for my MRI scan to help visualize certain areas better. The doctor mentioned it's an agent used to highlight abnormal tissue like tumors or inflammation. I'm a bit nervous about the side effects. Have any of you had experience with this dye? Be prepared for a metallic taste in your mouth. It's normal and should go away quickly. Stay hydrated before and after the scan to help flush out the contrast. I also found that wearing loose, comfortable clothing helps with feeling less claustrophobic in the machine.
(Hot take) I'd be more worried about the MRI machine itself. The clanging and banging sounds are enough to drive anyone crazy even if the contrast is very safe! Make sure to bring earplugs and take a deep breath!
Dotarem is great, but the same class of drug called gadoxetate can sometimes be an alternative if there are residual reactions or concerns.
