Helpful Thread: Tigecycline 50mg Inj, 1 Vial for Serious Bacterial Infections: Side Effects and Need-to-Know Information
I have been prescribed Tigecycline 50mg Inj, 1 Vial for a serious skin infection. The pharmacist gave me a long list of possible side effects, some of which are really scary. Has anyone else had experience with this? What should I watch out for besides the obvious allergic reactions, liver issues, acidosis, and severe stomach issues?
I'm a nurse, and I've seen a few cases of liver problems from this. They can start off feeling like a bad flu but rapidly get worse. If you feel any fatigue, nausea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, get to the ER ASAP.
I've had a similar experience with this medication. The worst part for me was the severe diarrhea and stomach cramps. I ended up with C. diff, which is a nightmare. Be really careful with the washroom hygiene and other precautions mentioned for C. diff associated diarrhoea.
I know someone who had to be hospitalized due to severe allergic reactions. It's terrifying how quickly it happened. I would strongly suggest keeping a close eye on any unusual symptoms.
That's scary stuff. I had a similar experience with another antibiotic - ended up in the ER with a weird skin rash. Don't let any of the side effects go unnoticed!
Slightly off-topic, but what about the long term effects? I heard it can cause teeth issues in kids?
Dang, this thread is making me glad I've never had to deal with anything this serious. Be safe, everyone!
