Has anyone had severe side effects from Benzaclin Gel?
I've been using Benzaclin Gel 1-5% Pump Gel 50gm for a couple of weeks now, and I'm not sure if I should continue. I've experienced some redness and irritation, but I'm more concerned about the potential for severe side effects. Has anyone else had similar issues, or worse? I want to know if I should be worried about the possibility of a severe reaction or stomach issues. Is there anything else I should do besides stop using it and see a doctor?
I had a bad reaction to Benzaclin. It caused severe dryness and peeling on my face, but it wasn't the worst part. I started getting these intense stomach cramps and bloody diarrhea. Went to the ER and found out it was colitis. Scary stuff, definitely not worth it. I switched to a different topical and it's been fine. Maybe see if you can get a different prescription.
I had some really bad skin irritation at first, but it went away after a while. The trick was to use a gentle moisturizer afterwards. You might be having a reaction to the benzoyl peroxide, which can be pretty harsh on the skin. Maybe try lowering the concentration to a 2-5% instead of 5%?

Benzaclin worked well for me but I did experience some burning and itching at the application site. I just used it less frequently and it went away. Talk to your doctor, you might need a lower concentration or a totally different medication.

I've heard some people say you should use a separate moisturizer with Benzaclin to minimize skin irritation. It helped me a lot. Have you tried that already?
Just a heads up, benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing and bedding. Be careful with that. Obviously your skin problems are way more important, but it's something to keep in mind.
I had an allergic reaction and my face was on fire. Benadryl and a cold compress saved the day. Be careful!
I'm curious if any of you guys used Benzaclin during the summer when you were sweating a lot. It was uncomfortable. Did you use it during the day or at night?
