Has anyone had any scary side effects from Periostat 20mg Tablets (doxycycline) for gum disease?
I've been taking Periostat 20mg for a few weeks now to help with my gum disease. My dentist prescribed it to slow down the progression of my gingivitis. I haven't experienced any major side effects, but I've seen the list for Severe and life-threatening ones and I must admit they're scary. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any scary experiences or side effects from Periostat. If so, how did you handle it? Did you have to stop taking it? Did the dentists do anything special?
I had a few episodes of bad stomach pain with it, so I stopped taking it and went to my doctor. They put me on a different medication and everything has been fine.
I was on Periostat for a while and had some serious digestive issues. I didn't have any of the really bad ones, though. It's worth a call to your doctor if you're feeling bad.
I had a friend who took this and ended up with some really bad stomach issues. She had to go to the hospital for a few days.
I took Periostat for a while and it was a lifesaver! Don't freak out about the side effects, just be aware of them and you should be fine.
