Has anyone experienced severe side effects from Prevalite 4gm Powder (Cholestyramine)?
I was prescribed Prevalite 4gm Powder to help lower my high cholesterol. While I understand it works by binding to bile acids and reducing cholesterol in the blood, I'm worried about the potential side effects. The medication guide lists severe allergic reactions, severe constipation, and unexplained bruising or bleeding as urgent side effects. Has anyone else experienced these or other serious side effects? How did you handle them? Any tips from those who have been on this medication long-term would be greatly appreciated. I've also heard it can help with itching from liver conditions, has anyone used it for that purpose?
I had a really bad reaction to this stuff. Started breaking out in hives and had trouble breathing. Scariest thing ever. Went to the ER and they told me to stop taking it immediately.
I had a friend who had to stop taking it because of unexplained bruising. It was pretty scary. Definitely something to keep an eye out for.
I've been using it for a while and it's helped with my cholesterol levels. Just make sure you drink plenty of water and stay active to avoid constipation.
My doctor said this is one of the best medications for high cholesterol. Just keep an eye out for those side effects and report them to your doctor if they happen.
I took it for a few weeks and had no issues. But then again, everyone's body reacts differently to medication.
I've heard it can help with itching from liver conditions, but I'm not sure how effective it is. Has anyone had any luck with that?
