Has anyone experienced severe side effects from Heparin 5000u/0.5ml injections?
I was recently prescribed Heparin Sod 5000u/0.5ml injections for a pulmonary embolism. I've heard about some scary side effects, like severe allergic reactions and bleeding issues. Has anyone else had to deal with this? How did you manage the side effects, and did you find any tips or tricks to make the injections less painful? I appreciate any insights or advice you can share. Also, is it normal to feel some discomfort or swelling at the injection site?
I had some pretty severe headaches while on heparin. Turns out it was a side effect, and my doctor switched me to a different medication. Definitely talk to your doctor if you notice anything unusual.
Heparin saved my life, but it was so painful. Cold compresses were the only thing that helped. I'll never do that again. I think I'll stick with other meds if I can manage it.
I've been on heparin for a while and haven't had any major issues. Just be really careful with your injections and always double-check the dose. I recommend warming the injection site to increase blood flow and reduce pain.
I had some bruising and a bit of itching, but it wasn't terrible. Just keep an eye on any unusual symptoms and stay in touch with your healthcare provider. If you have any neurological symptoms though, don't even think about it. The ER is the place to be.
I had a friend who ended up in the hospital with some weird leg symptoms and they couldn't move it anymore. Turns out it was from a blood clot. Heparin is important, so stick with it, but keep an eye on everything. Call the nurse if you're not feeling right. Better safe than sorry!
Swelling and discomfort at the injection site are pretty normal but let your doctor know if it gets really bad or if you have any bleeding that you can't control. They might want to monitor you more closely.
I remember seeing a few jokes about how heparin makes your skin look worse, but yeah, the swelling can be a bit annoying. It's all in the cause of good health. I don't get why people make jokes about these things!
I had to take heparin before a surgery, but I didn't have any side effects. Just make sure to follow all the instructions from your doctor. I'm curious—did you have a stent put in, or maybe a catheter?
