Does anyone else have weird side effects from Gaviscon Suspension?
Hey everyone, I've been taking Gaviscon Suspension for a few weeks now to deal with heartburn, and it seems to help with that. However, I've been experiencing some pretty weird side effects, like random diarrhea and constipation, which I didn't expect. I've seen some other people with similar issues, so I'm wondering if anyone has more information about these side effects and any tips to manage them? Also are there any big differences between Gaviscon and some other over the counter heartburn meds like omeprazole, I've been wondering. What are your thoughts or experiences? Thanks in advance!
I had a really bad allergic reaction to Gaviscon a few years back. Rash all over, couldn’t breathe properly, It was terrifying. Went to the ER and they told me I should avoid it completely. I stick to Tums now, no issues so far.
If you're experiencing severe side effects, definitely talk to your doctor. Sometimes they can switch you to a different medication that might work better for you. I was on Gaviscon and switched to Prilosec and it was a game-changer. Also, I had a friend who had to switch because they started having issues with constipation and diarrhea, but he was able to find an alternative that worked just as well.
Seriously, if you're experiencing chest tightness or trouble breathing, go to the hospital. It's not worth risking your life over heartburn.
I've been using Gaviscon for a few months and haven't had any major issues. I did have some initial constipation, but it went away after a week. I think it might be because my body adjusted to the magnesium and aluminum. Also, make sure you're eating a balanced diet and not taking it on an empty stomach, it can help with the side effects.
I've been taking Gaviscon for years and mostly it's fine, but I get constipated pretty bad sometimes. I usually just up my water intake and it helps a bit.
I really hope the diarrhea goes away, it's the worst. Might switch to omeprazole, I've heard it's good for heartburn but I don't know about the side effects.
I've had both diarrhea and constipation from Gaviscon. It sucks. But if you can find a way to manage it, it does help with heartburn. Just make sure to report any issues to your doctor and FDA. I seem to remember them needing more data on long term use.
I find that taking Gaviscon with a meal helps a lot with the side effects. Might be worth a shot?
I switched to Natural antacids. Ginger, Apple cider vinegar and baking soda all seem to work pretty well for me. Plus no side effects.
