Does anyone else have trouble swallowing Carbamazepine 100mg tablets? Considering switching to the chewable tabs.
I've been prescribed Carbamazepine for trigeminal neuralgia, and I'm finding the 100mg tablets really hard to swallow. I've seen the chewable version is available, and I'm wondering if anyone else has made the switch. How did you find the taste and effectiveness? Also, have you experienced any of the serious side effects listed in the prescription info? I'm a bit nervous about those. I'd really appreciate any insights or personal experiences you can share. I had a severe allergic reaction to Carbamazepine. If you start feeling any rash or swelling, get to the hospital immediately.
Be careful with the side effects, especially the low sodium levels. I had a friend who ended up in the hospital because of that.
I switched to the chewable tabs and they're a game-changer! Taste isn't great, but it's worth it for not having to struggle with swallowing. I didn't experience any serious side effects, just a bit of dizziness at first.
Side note: don't crush the tablets if you're prescribed the extended-release version. It won't work as intended.
I've been on the regular tabs for years and never had an issue. But I get the struggle, if it's really hard to swallow. Good to know the chewables are an option.
I found the chewables to be way more convenient, and the taste wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Plus, it's easier to adjust the dosage with the chewables.
I had to switch to a different medication because of the side effects. It was a nightmare. But for some people the chewables might work better!
Have you tried breaking the tablets in half? Maybe that would make them easier to swallow. Just a thought!
I've been on these for a while and I’ve noticed some mild side effects but nothing serious. Maybe the chewables won't be as bad. Good Luck!
My doctor recommended a liquid version as well. Ask about that if the chewables don't work out.
