Anyone know someone who has been given Acyclovir Sodium 50mg/ml Inj, 20ml?

I've never really heard of Acyclovir being given as a shot until my friend had to take this injection, and he was wracked with questions about it. It seems like an intense treatment for a nasty virus. Does anyone have any experiences with this particular injection? Are the side effects as life-threatening as the leaflet says? Is it always used when oral medication isn't suitable? Can anyone share if there are any tips for dealing with the side effects?

I have had to take this a few times for severe infections. It really helps but that feeling of confusion was the worst. I was trying to figure out where I was or what I was doing.

I had a friend who had this injection for shingles. She said it was pretty rough, but she didn't experience any of the serious side effects. Just the normal ones like feeling tired and weak, which she expected. She did say the injection site was a little irritated for a bit, but she also added, 'I'd rather deal with that than a viral infection!'

I work in a nursing home, and we've seen a couple of residents with pretty severe herpes outbreaks. It's really scary, but when we go with this IV treatment, they're usually back on their feet in no time.

The only side effect I remember is the irritated injection site. It felt like a clunky bumpy bruise that lingered for a few days. I guess it was a small price to pay for getting rid of the symptoms.

I had this when I had a severe case of chickenpox. I was terrified because I read all the possible side effects, but fortunately, I didn't have any serious issues. Just a bit of nausea and feeling tired.

This drug is a lifesaver, but I wish the side effects weren't so serious. I had to stop taking it because of some really bad mood changes. The confusion was intense. I couldn't get anything done.

I can't believe how many people are talking about this. I had never even heard of this being given as an injection. I had to look it up. Seriously, how common is this as an injection?

I had a really intense case of shingles a few years back and my doctor prescribed this. One thing to note is how fast it works. Within a few hours of the shot, my symptoms started to get better. However, I did have a pretty bad reaction at the injection sight that lasted a few days.

I have to say, I've seen more people have issues with the dizziness and sleepiness than anything else. Some of us would joke around, 'At least I won't have insomnia tonight!'
